The Alchemist, Endurance, & Will Smith

October 22, 2009

Fellow DubLi Pioneers,

I talked about the book The Alchemist in a training we conducted a few weeks ago. I couldn’t put it down – read the whole thing in about 3 hours (with interruptions). Will Smith also mentioned it in the video below (which I think is mandatory regular viewing for a great mindset).

Here are a few powerhouse quotes from the book:

  • “Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we’ve learned as we move toward that dream. That’s the point at which most people give up. It’s the point at which, as we say in the language of the desert, one ‘dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon’.”
  • “‘Every search begins with beginner’s luck. And every search ends with the victor being severely tested.’ The boy remembered an old proverb from his country. It said that the darkest hour of the night came just before the dawn.”
  • “… one of life’s simple lessons … When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others of them, seldom are you believed.”

“If it’s to be, it’s up to me!”
